Collision Forensics
Abstract:
Rules of evidence with which reconstruction experts must comply require that experts know and understand the scientific, mathematical, and engineering foundations of their opinions. In addition, an expert must be able to coherently explain those scientific and engineering principles to his clients and ultimately to a jury as well as withstand examination by opposing attorneys. This seminar will analyze a hypothetical intersection collision between a Code 3 police vehicle and a Mercedes. As part of the analysis, applicable principles and equations will be explained and developed. The seminar is not heavy in math, but knowledge of basic algebra and trigonometry are assumed. At the conclusion of the seminar, participants will understand energy and momentum principles, will know how to derive and explain several useful equations, and will be able to apply those equations for clients.
