Reconstruction of Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT)

Abstract:
Currently in the Law Enforcement community there is an ever increasing use of the Precision Immobilization Technique.  As a result of the PIT Maneuver being utilized to control a fleeing suspect more frequently, approaches to reconstructing the PIT Maneuver are increasing also.  This block will involve the various methods of the reconstruction process associated with the PIT Maneuver as well as case studies of an actual reconstruction of a PIT case.  In conclusion the block will discuss the lateral effects on the occupants of the vehicle which is pitted and  the instrumental findings from a PIT.

Bio:
Sgt. Sturdivan is a 19 year veteran of the Georgia State Patrol and the past 11 years serving on the, Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.  During his tenure on the SCRT Sgt Sturdivan was involved in several high profile cases, most notably the fog crash in Catoosa County Georgia, involving 87 damaged vehicles and the forensic mapping of the Tri-State Crematory.  In April of 2007, he became responsible for the Collision Training at Trooper School and the Reconstruction Training for members of the SCRT.  He is a Forensic Mapping Instructor and an Instructor for the CDR Technician Class.
